Tree Builder/Browser

    This page is devoted to the CMS HCAL tree.

    At the present moment this tree contains about 45 000 items and manual editing or navigation in this tree is almost impossible. The program VTree.exe allows to :

• build whole tree by replication of subtrees placed in different text files, 
• edit subtrees,
• perform some checks of the tree.

    This program also allows to download from the WEB server the most fresh versions of subtree files.

    Vtree.exe provides help hints for all main screen components. Just move cursor to the screen component and read help line at the status bar of the main screen.

To run VTRee.exe perform following actions:

Case 1. You are going to browse a tree only.

• Create a directory for the TreeBrowser
•  Download Tree  browser to the created directory
•  Run VTree.exe and press button "Build" . Wait... It is done!

When You build a tree next time, the local file set will be used. To refresh the local file set press the button .

Optional: if You always wish to have the most fresh files -

• go to Setup ,
• select "File access mode" to "Load all from the WEB". Drawback - It will work slowly if the network is slow... The mode "Local files only" will provide maximum speed, but in this case You will need to refresh WEB files time to time changing mode to "Load all from the WEB".

Case 2. You are going  to edit a tree or subtree.

• Create a directory for the TreeBrowser
• Create extra subdirectory for the editing files
• Create extra subdirectory for the files to be downloaded from the server

•  Download Tree browser
•  Run Vtree.exe and go to "Setup" .
• Set  "Working directory" from "Local files" to the subdirectory for the editing files. Button could be used
• Set "Local copy directory" from "Web Loaded files" to the subdirectory for the files to be downloaded from the server. Button could be used.
•  Return to main screen by and press button "Build" .
• Exit VTree and move files to be edited to the subdirectory for the editing files.
• Start Vtree again and edit a tree.

Requirements for a computer: PC running Windows 95, NT, 2000 etc. with CPU - Pentium at least, 32 Mbytes of RAM. Program will take about 2 Mbytes of disk space for all files. 

Warning:  It is not recommended to run VTree.exe at slow CPU or if the RAM size is less than 32 MBytes. It will work VERY SLOWLY...

        HV hardware Tree

    The HV power supply hardware tree is available now. To browse it set WEB address edit box in the Setting up window to http://sergueev.home.cern.ch/sergueev/hcal/tree/HV
